Privacy Policy Template

privacy pageThe Privacy Policy page is required by law if your website serves EU countries. It is also required by the Google Ad-sense Terms and Conditions if you intend to monetize your site in that way. In any case, it’s a good thing to have and recommend that you include it.

You can create a stand alone page using copy similar to that found on this site, or you may like to use a plug-in to manage your legal pages as per discussion regarding plug-ins.

I have used WP-Insert in the past but I must let you know that this plugin has been removed from the WordPress Repository because the GEO IP Country Database for its Geo-Targeting feature uses a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License instead of the required GPL. Basically this means that you will not get automatic updates if you choose this plug-in. You will need to watch for updates on your own.

The text of the default Privacy Policy page produced by WP-Insert is given below. It is compliant with Google Ad-sense, but I can only assume it is also compliant with the E.U. Cookie Law.

At ____________.com, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us (See this article to learn more about Privacy Policies.). This privacy policy document outlines the types of personal information is received and collected by ____________.com and how it is used.

Google’s use of the DART cookie enables it to serve ads to users based on their visit to ____________.com and other sites on the Internet.
Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie by visiting the Google ad and content network privacy policy at the following URL – http://www.google.com/privacy_ads.html.

These third-party ad servers or ad networks use technology to the advertisements and links that appear on ____________.com send directly to your browsers. They automatically receive your IP address when this occurs. Other technologies ( such as cookies, JavaScript, or Web Beacons ) may also be used by the third-party ad networks to measure the effectiveness of their advertisements and / or to personalize the advertising content that you see.

____________.com has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-party advertisers.

You should consult the respective privacy policies of these third-party ad servers for more detailed information on their practices as well as for instructions about how to opt-out of certain practices. ____________.com’s privacy policy does not apply to, and we cannot control the activities of, such other advertisers or web sites.

If you wish to disable cookies, you may do so through your individual browser options. More detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers can be found at the browsers’ respective websites.

Of course, you might choose to use a different plugin such as WP Legal Pages to manage your site.

It is also possible to paste your Privacy Policy page text into the Ginger – EU Cookie Law plug-in and create it that way. For EU use, you need a cookie notice plug-in anyway.

The next required page to discuss will be your Contact Page .
