Use your browser to access the Login URL: http://www.yourdomain.com/admin

  • On the left, half way down, navigate to Settings >> General and make changes as follows:
    • Site Title : ensure Primary Keyword is the title (capitalized as titles).
    • Tag Line : ensure Primary Keyword in the subtitle (tag line) in a sentence with an LSI word.
    • E-mail address : accounts@yournewdomain.TLD .
  • Click (Save Changes).

  • Navigate to Settings >> Permalinks and make the changes as follows:
    • Select Custom Structure (NOT default, prior to WordPress ver 3.3.x)
    • Enter /%postname%/ .
  • Click (Save Changes).
  • Navigate to Settings >> Reading and make the changes as follows:
    • Select ‘A static page’ (Radio Button).
    • Identify your sample Front page to WordPress.
    • Tick the box marked ‘Search Engine Visibility’ [] Discourage search engines from indexing this site.
  • Click (Save Changes).
  • For WordPress versions prior to 3.5, navigate to Settings >> Privacy and make the changes as follows:
    • Select ‘I would like to block search engines, but allow normal visitors’.
  • Click (Save Changes).

So, what the heck was that? First you did some very simple S.EO (Search Engine Optimization) work by setting your Title and Tagline telling the engines what your site is all about.

Then a wee bit of administrative stuff in setting up the contact email for your site. (See how professional that looks? L.O.L.)

Next, we switched back to SEO again. The permalink structure ensures that search engines can see your post and page title by simply looking at the url. How much easier can you make it for them?

Then we told WordPress that this site will operate quite like a blog. There will be a few dedicated pages about most of the on-going content will be added as blog posts.

And finally, a little counter-intuitive move to tell the search engines to stay away. We don’t want them to index our site in a half finished condition. We would rather have them wait. We can call them when dinner’s ready.
