Keyword Research

July 27th, 2016

A keyword is a short phrase which when typed into a search engine, results in potential traffic for your site.

glassesThere are 3 types of web surfers using keywords:

  • Freebie Seekers – Referred to as Navigation or ‘Go’ by Google, they may not be actually seeking anything but another site, however, they are certainly not interested in making a purchase.
  • Information Seekers – Referred to as Information or ‘Know’ by Google, might consider making a purchase sometime in the future when their research is completed.
  • Justification Seekers – Referred to as Action or ‘Do’ by Google, they are looking for confirmation and permission to act on their decision to purchase immediately.

The perfect Keyword is one that

  • is very specific, meaning that it’s very clear what the searcher is looking for in our niche, so we can provide the optimal solution. (Good Relevancy.)
  • has a high search volume, meaning many people are typing in that search term every single day. (Good Traffic.)
  • is on an upwards trend or consistently searched for, meaning that people will still be searching for it months and years from now. (Good Longevity.)
  • has low competition, meaning the websites currently ranking on top for that keyword are badly optimized and can be easily displaced by a website of our own. (Low Competition.)
  • is a Buyer Keyword, meaning that people who search for it are ready and willing to pay amounts of money worth our efforts, and not just Freebie Seekers. (Good Commerciality,)

In short, we’re looking for very specific, high volume, Buyer Keywords with relatively easy-to-beat competition, and an increasing or stable trend.

Follow the steps given for Keyword Research in the next few modules, then,

    crowds
  • Use your Primary Keyword as the key topic for the main page of your site. Use at least 4 secondary LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords in the main page copy.
  • Create internal pages from your LSI words using each one as the main keyword for that page. Use an additional 4 LSI keywords in the articles you publish on each inner page.
  • LSI keywords are selected on the basis of relevance and not traffic, competition or any other metric.

Now, let’s go see how much we can make by using the Keyword Profit Formula.
