DMCA Template

November 9th, 2017

Image_removed_DMCAAs of 1998 the US Congress passed a law which protects copyright owners from infringement of their rights on the Internet.

I’m not sure anymore where I obtained it but I include a page with the following text on some of my sites, especially those that I expect are likely to be copied.

“No part of this website and its content may be reproduced or transmitted in any means without written permission from the website owner.

DMCA Act

The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 provides recourse for owners of copyright material who believe their property has been illegally reproduced and they provide recourse for such matters. Under this act if material is used against the will of the webmaster he or she may contact the ISP of the website where the infringement has taken place and require them to block that site. A formal complaint must be filed in accordance to the DMCA. If the action taken by the webmaster or ISP against the accused party is counternotified then the ISP ban may be lifted as appropriate.”

I guess it is not strictly required that you include this type of page, but… hey… what can it hurt?

OK, let’s go back now and learn about different Types of Content.
